Contradictions seem to be a theme in my life.
I love nature, but I want the urban hustle. I want stability, yet I want to be free. I can say with certainty most of my work is inspired by nature. However, I’ve come to realize that when a piece starts to lean too far on the natural side, such as muted colors and organic shapes, my inner core starts to resist and I lean further into vibrant hues and geometrical forms.
I am searching for the perfect balance of natural, yet artificial. These works on paper are an exploration of the balance of the two. I have chosen to add a few collage elements, which I do not believe will be a part of my regular practice, but it was interesting to drift away from the painted and hand-drawn marks for now.
I'm continuing to push the boundaries of my work. It's amazing how scary an additional mark can be and there is always doubt and anxiety that I will mess it up. I can choose to leave a piece as it is or I can push it further to see how much more it can become.
I am excited to announce I will be posting some work for sale next weekend! Check your inbox for the update.
My next post will be Sunday, October 24th.
